Theme: Family

 

 

Explanation: Your family is everyone who lives with you in your house. They are the people who have close relationships with you, and who love you.

 

A family tree


 

Vocabulary: father, mother, parents, son, daughter; brother, sister, siblings; uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, cousins; grandmother, grandfather, grandparents, grandson, granddaughter.

 

Activity:

Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

1.      What is your father’s name? [My father’s name is ____________].

2.      What is your mother’s name?

3.      Who is your grandmother?

4.      How many siblings do you have?

5.      How many cousins do you have?

6.      Where do your uncle and aunt live?

7.      What do you call your mother’s father?

8.      What do you call your father’s sister?

9.      Who lives in your house with you?

10.  What other family do you know? (e.g. mother-in-law, step-brother)

 

Extension Class Activity:

·         Ask students to create a family tree of three generations (grandparents, parents, themselves). Demonstrate by showing your own family tree.

·         In pairs or small groups, students will share their family tree and ask each other question.

·         Choose 2 or 3 students to present their family tree to the whole class.

·         Variation: display one family tree, and the class must guess which student it belongs to.
