Dialogue

Sandra: What’s your opinion about- plague?

Herizo: In my opinion, plague is a dangerous sickness

Sandra: Why?

Herizo: Because, it kills many people in many regions in Madagascar

 

1.      Asking about opinions

2.      Giving opinions

-        In my opinion,…

I think that,…

3.      Likes and dislikes

-         A: Do you like football?

-         B : No I don’t

-         A: So what sports do you like?

-         B : I prefer basketball and ping pong

 

To like

To love, to enjoy, to adore, to prefer, to fancy, to be fond of, to be crazy about, to be keen of,  to be interested in.                                                         

                            

To dislike

To hate, to detest, can’t bear, can’t stand, can’t support.

 

 

 

4.      Agreeing and disagreeing

a)      Rinaud: I am crazy about RNB music because it is good for health.

Erica: I don’t agree with you because it has nothing to do with health.

Finoana: Erica, I don’t agree with you.

b)      Ranto: I dislike a mouse because it brings plague.

Mendrika: I agree with you.

Finoana: Do you agree with Ranto?

Students: Yes, it’s true.

 

Agreeing

I agree with you, I think so, It’s true, You’re right, I completely agree with you/him/her/them

Disagreeing

I don’t agree with you, I don’t think so,  It’s not true ,You’re wrong, I disagree with you/her/him/them

 

                                                                           

5.      The gerund

a)     Form :    V + ING 

 

Example:

 

To have                          having

To smoke                       smoking

To study                        studuing           

To swim                        swimming

 

b)     Use :

 

  • We use the gerund as a subject

Example : Swimming is good

 

  •   We can also use it as an object

Example : I don’t like swimming


  • It is used after likes and dislikes

Example 1: Student prefer reading books

Example 2: I detest smoking

  • The gerund can be used after some prepositions such as :

After

For

By


Example 1: After swimming. I have lunch.

 

Example 2: After playing football I have learn my lesson

·        It is also used after some verbs and expressions such as :

To finish                     To continue                To keep

To stop                       To give up                  To begin

To go on                     To abandon                To start

It’s no use                  It’s worth                   It’s no worth

 

Example 1: Continuous learning the lesson.

Example 2: It’s no use smoking
